NOVEMBER 9, 2022 – To prepare the student nurses of Samar State University holistically to the daily battles of all health care workers, the Samar Provincial Hospital conducted the Student Nurses Orientation held at SSU COED Function Room.
Present in the event were the Chief of Hospital Dr. Jonathan Gabriel J. Paquit, Chief of Clinics Dr. Perlie P. Langi, Hospital Administrator Nurse Alejo M. Ilao, Jr., Nurse Anabelle Mana, the Chief Nurse, COVID-19 Isolation Facility Supervisor Nurse Ledwin R. Lobriño, Infection Control Nurse and HACT Nurse Christine Jenyl M. Tuazon, Disease Surveillance Officer Nurse Muhammad Hakim Jamirie Q. Rasuman, and the third- and fourth-year student nurses who were qualified for hospital duty as the participants of the said event.
Chief of Hospital Dr. Paquit expressed his gratitude to finally conduct an orientation and welcome student nurses into the real-world medical application after years of break because of the pandemic. He also briefly delivered the introduction of the Samar Provincial Hospital and its profile in his opening message.
“Even before the pandemic, every time we have affiliate students or even we have newly hired personnel, we always conduct an orientation for them to have a quick perspective of the institution they are entering,” Dr. Paquit stated in an interview.
He also emphasized the significance of the orientation to the student nurses as “students will be able to foresee what is happening in the real world between life and death situations as hospital care is one of the most essential 24/7 frontline services of the society.”
On the other hand, Chief Nurse Anabelle Mana presented the mission, vision, goals, the general and the specific objectives of the hospital, and the policy on affiliating students in her speech.
Fourth-year student Armelyn Joy M. Abarquez highlighted the fact that they are products of the pandemic and the orientation was a big factor for them to have a motivation since the pandemic dulled their purpose and vision.
“Theoretical knowledge is different from reality, so we are grabbing this opportunity to experience the real situation in the hospital setting,” said Abarquez.
“That’s something we want to happen right now. An mahibaro kami not just theoretically, but the reality,” she added.
Meanwhile, student nurses started their duty the day after the orientation which was on Thursday, November 10 and will continue until December 16 of the present year every Thursday and Friday.
