“Finally, finally, finally… deserve!”
NOVEMBER 5, 2022— After multiple postponements due to conflicts of schedule and the recent Typhoon Paeng, this meme reference came in handy as the College of Nursing and Health Sciences made both the 17th Bachelor of Science in Nursing Badge Pinning, Capping, Candle Lighting and 6th Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy White Coat and Pinning Ceremonies happen at Samar State University Gymnasium, Saturday.
Joint ceremony commenced through the eucharistic celebration, followed by the processional march of the candidates and their parents, then the ceremony proper.
170 student nurses, BSN Batches Azurite of 2024 and Chalcedony of 2025, were capped and pinned by the College Dean, Dr. Dolores L. Arteche, assisted by BSN instructors Begonia Yboa, Rheajane Rosales, Jeanette Sabio, and Mary Ann Apacible. Meanwhile, the lighting of candles was led by Charmaine Quiña.
14 BSP students, Batch Spiramycin of 2024, were pinned and cloaked with their white coats by BSP instructors Josie Rose Pilapil, Eddielyn Cabornay, and Myrani Clare Tecbobolan.
This much awaited ceremony was held as an indication that these candidates have “satisfactorily complied [with] all the requirements as prescribed by these curricula in accordance to the rules and regulations of the college and as mandated by the Commission on Higher Education”.
Moreover, pharmacy students took their oath “to solemnly commit themselves to be of service to all mankind through pharmacy” with the guidance of Pamela Aducal.
Student nurses, led by Lawrence Quincy Quiaño, pledged themselves “to do all in their power to maintain and elevate the standard of their profession… and devote themselves to the welfare of those committed to their care”.
“Even with this capping and coating ceremony, being thankful is absolutely necessary because this means that you are all eligible for the next major thing— the clinical and community exposure,” Quiña highlighted in her words of gratitude.
The ceremony ended by citing a quote from Florence Nightingale, “Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation as any painter’s or sculptor’s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God’s spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts.”
