Following Typhoon Kristine, student organizations of Samar State University mobilized a support drive to assist the affected communities, particularly Oeste National High School and Brgy. Oeste A of Tarangnan, Samar.
On October 31, 2024, Alpha Phi Omega-Theta Alpha Chapter together with some University Student Council officers transported essential supplies to Tarangnan proper. Due to the absence of signal in Brgy. Oeste A and the inability to contact the barangay captain, coupled with the intensifying waves as the afternoon came, the team decided to deliver the donations to the town center.
Earlier today, November 1, Punong Barangay Hon. Gerald Caliste of Brgy. Oeste A personally received the much-needed donations.
Meanwhile, a monetary donation of ₱5,000.00 was remitted to Oeste National High School the previous night. The remaining funds were used to purchase essential commodities like rice, canned goods, and noodles, benefitting 270 affected families in Brgy. Oeste A.
Even after the initial donation turnover, some student organizations continued to donate through GCash, and these additional monetary donations were earmarked for Oeste National High School.
The Samar State University community expresses its sincere gratitude to the Local Government Unit of Tarangnan for providing a rescue vehicle to facilitate the transportation of relief goods from the SSU Main Campus to Tarangnan.
