The new set of officers of the University Student Council (USC) of Samar State University for the Academic Year 2022-2023, took their oath during the Formal Turnover and Oath-Taking Ceremony held at the SSU Research Innovation Center (RIC) Building on October 17.
University President, Dr. Marilyn Cardoso spearheaded the oath-taking of the 26-member council composed of the President- and Vice President-elect, and 24 representatives from different departments.
In her message, Dr. Cardoso commended the newly inducted officers and encouraged them to be grateful for the opportunity to serve the Tradesmen. “…when you love what you’re doing, when you’re happy when you’re serving, and when you commit to fulfill your vision for your organization, that’s when you create impact [and] influence others to advocate for the common [good]. That’s when you inspire others to transform,” said Cardoso.
Dr. Cardoso also emphasized that honor and excellence should serve as the mantra of the officers when it comes to leadership in the University. “People will expect highly from you so you have to live up to that expectation… It’s always a decision to be excellent… At the end of the day, you are enrolled to Samar State University that is starting to be world class,” she added.
The said event was also attended by the Student Welfare and Development Services (SWDS) Director Dr. Mae Cañal, Student Affairs and Services Vice President Engr. Maria Lourdes Amante, Student Organization Coordinator Mr. Melboy Merciales, and SSU Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Adviser Engr. Noel Palomas.
Meanwhile, SSU-COMELEC Chairperson, adviser and members for AY 2021-2022 were given certificates of recognition for their efforts in the success of the 2022 USC Election.
The proclamation of winners for this year’s election was administered by the current COMELEC Chairperson Mr. Chad Abinguna.
Vice President of the Student Affairs and Services Engr. Maria Lourdes Amante, expressed her gratitude to the service of the outgoing USC officers, and SSU officials; and reiterated the expected duties and responsibilities of the new USC leaders.
The ceremony concluded with a message from Ms. Lobela Bulos, the outgoing USC President who posed a challenge to the newly elected officers to “inspire others with a legacy that must be created through actions” and to “dream more, learn more, do more, and become more.”
