Samar State University pulled off this year’s Cultural Contest to showcase the students’ talents held at SSU Gymnasium on October 7, together with other campuses.
Dr. Madelynn Reposo, Head of Cultural Arts in her opening remarks, welcomed the students and the participants as she directly declared to open the said affair.
Tradesmen competed in different categories: Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet, Pop Dance, and Dance Sports both Standard and Latin categories.
During the contest, College of Education proved that they are the home of the champions as they hauled away the first place in Vocal Solo (OPM), Vocal Duet (OPM), Pop Dance, and Dance Sports (Latin Category). Meanwhile, Mercedes Campus secured the first place in Dance Sports (Standard Category).
Von Carlo Kierulf made the song his own in Vocal Solo competition, grabbing the top spot with an average score of 93.6; as well as in Vocal Duet, Vincent Lorioso together with Shirley Mae Brillantes obtained an average score of 91.00. COED’s Pop Dance group pulled off the victory with an average score of 97.00, and in Dance Sports (Latin Category) with an average score of 8.92.
SSU Gymnasium was filled with chants from the students as they cheered for the emerged victory of the contestants.
Mr. Ariel Guantic Ayong, Mrs. Adelpha S. Mabulay, Mr. Nicolas Cabardo, Mr. Nifael A. Quintas and Mr. Sean Edward S. Saludar graced the event as the panel of judges.
Dr. Randy Pacadaljen, Director of Sports Development, Culture and Arts Program (SDCAP), expressed his message for the closing remarks as he informed the winners that they will be the ambassadors of the university to represent in the regional competition to be held at Southern Leyte State University next month.
