A total of 263 fourth-year students from the College of Education (CoEd) were successfully pinned and inaugurated as pre-service teachers on Friday, October 18, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, Barangay Ubanon, Catbalogan City, for CoEd’s seventh Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony.
With the theme “Maanyag: Illuminating the Future with purpose and Passion as 21st Century Teachers,” the event began with a holy mass presided over by Msgr. Antonio Verzosa, followed immediately by the pinning ceremony.
The ceremony commenced with a processional march of both the candidates and the faculty, followed by the welcoming remarks of Educators’ Guild President Mel Rian Almojeno.
“This ceremony symbolizes not only the official beginning of our practice teaching journey but also the light we carry within us—the light of knowledge, hope, and inspiration that we will soon pass on to our students,” said Almojeno.
The event continued with the presentation of the candidates for pinning, which included 33 from the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, 62 from the Bachelor of Elementary Education, and 42 from the Bachelor of Physical Education.
In addition, 40 with specialization in English, 26 in Mathematics, 30 in Science, and 30 in Social Studies, were candidates from the Bachelor of Secondary Education.
Meanwhile, acting CoEd Dean Dr. Laura Boller congratulated Batch Maanyag and urged them to uphold their responsibilities to both the school and the community.
“I challenge you to exercise your duties as pre-service teachers to the best of your abilities… go, face the world of teaching and make your SSU CoEd proud,” said Boller in her acceptance and challenge speech.
After the pinning and candle lighting proper, University President Redentor Palencia offered his remarks to incite inspiration among the newly pinned preservice teachers.
“As you [lit] the candle of knowledge and transfer its light to you, remember the responsibilities that comes with it, as you become the light. You will now be the bearers of light, be a beacon of hope,” he said.
Filled with joy and hope, the freshly pinned student teachers are set to undergo their in-campus and off-campus deployment for field study courses after a pre-deployment orientation.
