CATBALOGAN CITY – College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS) raised their banners as the crowd witnessed the ground for beauty and brain in the names of Jazztin Antonii Acedillo and Kyla Jabinal who emerged victorious and were crowned as Mr. and Ms. Samar State University at the SSU Gymnasium, October 7.
Jazztin, a 20-year old charm student from CAS flexed his muscles as he bagged six special awards – Sirak Kabataan ng Talalora Ambassador, Best in Production, Best in Talent, Mr. Eloquence, Best in Formal Evening Wear, and Mr. Photogenic. This set the energy high for CAS supporters as they were all proud and loud to chant for their candidates and raised their bright yellow phone screens, showing their support for their department.
Acedillo’s winning answer left a lasting impression on the judges and also caught the crowd. He was asked about what really matters in sports. Fearless and confident, Jazztin threw a burning dagger in his response that secured a bullseye spot for the crown.
“During sports events, I believe the most important factor is the camaraderie and the teamwork that we build and we share through our shared experiences during workshops and training. The grueling hours of working together during drills, the invaluable moments that we share during breaks in locker rooms, and the bonds and the friendship that we share. Rather than focusing on winning, we should focus on learning and gaining as much experience through the journey and learning to enjoy the process and I believe, that is what makes us winners in all aspects,” he answered.
Meanwhile, the moist eyes, beaming face, and overwhelmed heart were captured from Kyla of CONHS who pocketed two special awards – Best in Swimwear and Ms. Eloquence. Testing her reliability, Jabinal was questioned how she can promote sports and become a real game changer. She proved her beauty was blended by intelligence.
“I have seen many athletes showcasing their talents and skills and even though I am not highly inclined when it comes to my athletic skills, I myself could not help but be inspired by their talents and skills. And so, I believe that sports fest or having a sports is one of the best actions that universities can do to boost camaraderie among students and I believe—and as a spokesperson, I believe I can do that by encouraging all of you, my dear schoolmates and my student athletes, to truly utilize your skills and potential, because at the end of the day there are no limits as to what you can do to achieve in your journey through life. So, believe in yourself,” she said.
