Samar State University College of Education once again proved that they are the “Home of the Champions” as students exhibit their talents and intelligence during the College Days held on September 28 to 29, 2022.
The two-day event commenced with Cultural Contests on September 28 where COED students competed in different categories: vocal solo, vocal duet, and pop dance. On its second day, the search for Mr. and Ms. COED 2022 and the Acquaintance Party took place.
Eagles’ chirp and flap to championship
During the Cultural Contests, BECED’s representatives showed their dominance in terms of vocals as they placed champion in both vocal solo and duet. Fourth year’s Von Carlo Kierulf clinched the first place in vocal solo as well as in the vocal duet with Diane Abelomg.
Meanwhile, out of the five group participants, BPED secured the victor seat in Pop dance as they garnered 98% average score, proving that they groove the greatest amongst all programs. BECED landed second and BSED-Mathematics placed third.
Judges of the contest are Prof. Anecito Sultan, PE Instructor; Prof. Theresa B. Probadora, Faculty of Mathematics; Prof. Joan Baclay, Dance Enthusiast and DYSY University Radio In-Charge; Mr. Rexzell Jaboli, Former Member of SSU Dance Troupe and Samar College Sports and Arts Coordinator; and Mr. Judito Dacuno, PE Instructor.
The COED Function Room, where the contest held, was filled with chants from the different programs as they cheered their representatives showing merit in culture and arts.
Eagles’ speed to crown
On the second day, September 29, COED students gathered at the SSU Gymnasium, 5:00 P.M. for the Acquaintance Party and its highlight event, the search for Mr. and Ms. COED 2022.
The event kicked off with an Acquaintance Party by which Dr. Laura B. Boller, College Dean, remarked it as “the night of thanksgiving.”
“Tonight is the night of thanksgiving for first year as they leave high school and enter college,” said Dean Boller in her welcome message. “Tonight is the night of thanksgiving for second and third year, since after of the pandemic, they haven’t experience acquaintance party. Also, for fourth year, as they will go to practice teaching, and tomorrow is their pinning ceremony,” she added.
Right after the Acquaintance Party, students shifted from party-enjoyers to fans as they fire up their each program’s representative for Mr. and Miss COED 2022.
The pageant was divided into 5 portions: production number, swimwear, preliminary question-and-answer, casual wear, and final question-and-answer.
Sets of special awards were also given to the candidates. The Mr. and Ms. Matuguinao Tourism were snatched by Maureen Mhel Davines of SocStud Circle and Angelo Brin of Society of English Majors; Mr. and Ms. One Radio 101.3 is Joules Jericho Bardaje of SocStud Circle and Jonnah Mae Bacuetes of BECED; Maureen Mhel Davines from SocStud Circle also took Ms. Lamrag by Sirak Talalora while Mr. Lamrag is Julio Stephen Lavado from BPED; Apple Jane Dormitorio from English and Lucky Andrey Cupido from MATHSOC got the Mr. and Ms. Mary Kay Award; Mr. and Ms. Beauty Arts by CJ Babon is Angelo Brin and Jean Bernadette Colocado from BSED-Science; Apple Jane Dormitorio also got the Ms. PYDO Sirak Youth Ambassadress and Lucky Andrey Cupido got Ambassador title; lastly, both from BPED, Janice Enolpe and Julio Stephen Lavado obtained the SK Award.
To find out the deserving Top 5 male and female candidates, aspirants drawn a hashtag that states certain academic and societal issues during the preliminary question-and-answer portion.
Jonnah Mae Bacuetes from BECED, Jean Bernadette Colocado from BSED-Science, Apple Jane Dormitorio from BSED-English, Maureen Mhel Davines from BSED-Social Studies, and Ma. Jamaica Jabon from BPED successfully entered the Top 5 for Miss COED. Meanwhile, Alvin Corralijo from BSED-Math, Angelo Brin from BSED-English, Julio Stephen Lavado from BPED, Lucky Andrey Cupido form BSED-Math, and Joules Jericho Bardaje from BSED-Social Studies were the Top 5 for the male candidates.
In the end, Joules Jericho Bardaje from BSED-Social Studies and Jonnah Mae Bacuetes from BECED hailed as the new holders of COED crowns— the Mr. and Miss College of Education 2022. Angelo Brin and Maureen Mhel Davines placed 1st Runner Up while Julio Stephen Lavado and Apple Jane Dormitorio ranked 2nd Runner Up.
Bardaje also took home the three major special awards, Best in Production Outfit, Mr. Eloquence, and Best in Casual Wear, while Best in Swimsuit was fetched by Lavado. Miss COED 2022 Bacuetes, won the Best in Casual Wear. Dormitorio is the Ms. Eloquence and Best in Production Outfit, while Davines claimed Best in Swimsuit.
