Back to back action: Barrage of women's volleyball for SSU Palaro return

The Palaro Women’s Volleyball Tournament – Double Eliminations resumed not only in the same venue with the men, but now, with a fast-paced playlist—with subsequent matches one after another in the first day of the renewed Palaro SSU at the SSU Quadrangle today.

Starting where the Palaro left off, game 3, had the College of Education and the College of Industrial Technology as its opening act. CIT decisively notched the opener, But by the second set, they saw themselves in a seesaw match with CoEd, however, the CoEd-ettes eclipsed the deadlock and snatched the match with service aces and CIT errors 2-1.

In the battle of the external campuses in game 4, Paranas dismantled their away twin by washing them out 2 set to nothing. Viscious Paranas attacks coupled with the women’s denial of Mercedes’ desperate hold of the net saw them easily claiming the dub, with a service ace closing the match to top it off, 2-0.

For the fifth round, as the CAS men were completely overwhelmed, the CAS women switched the fates by overturning the CoEd-ettes in their matchup. CoEd clinched the first set and propelled for the second set, but, CAS stole the momentum from CoEd and clung onto it, with a CAS service ace closing the match in emphatic fashion, 2-1.

The 6th matchup was the College of Nursing and Health Sciences against the College of Engineering, who are both units that are facing eliminations. With the first set being a stalemate, CoEng’g rose over the tussle and took the opener, but, by the second set, CoNHS pushed their recovery efforts, nabbing and running away with the lead with solid defense, demolishing CoEng’g’s finals hopes, 2-1.

The seventh game was a rousing tussle of a match between the College of Industrial Technology and SSU – Mercedes Campus, with both sets being exhausting losses that resulted in Mercedes being eliminated. The match was a back and forth between the two, with both sets resulting in a deuce, but CIT persevered and ended the struggle, 2-0.

In the 8th round is where we saw the women’s matchup deviate from their men counterpart, as instead of CoEd-PC, it is the College of Arts and Sciences facing off against Paranas Campus. Not only was it an impasse, but, both sets were a frustrating wasted opportunity for CAS, with Paranas sneaking past CAS and stealing the match point, rounding the Monday contest, 2-0.
