Despite the heavy rainfall, different colleges and campuses of Samar State University braved the gloomy weather for the 2024 Palaro SSU Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Tournament in the opening day of the sports meet in the SSU Quadrangle on October 21.
In the afternoon, despite being the away team, the Samar State University – Mercedes Campus led the opening salvo by completely dismantling the College of Engineering, with the SSU-MC women’s pool showcasing mastery by sweeping CoEng’g’s squad, 2-0. While the men counterpart denied CoEng’g’s comeback efforts in the third set with rigid blocks and impenetrable defense, 2-1.
With the rainfall getting heavier, the College of Arts and Sciences didn’t falter as they mirrored SSU-MC’s victory slate with the women completely shutting down CoNHS’ girls convincingly, 2-0. With the CAS men pulling the plug on CoNHS’ desperate hold for life in the third set, 2-1.
Amidst the class suspensions due to the tropical depression, the remaining colleges and campuses are keeping their engines warm for the eventual continuation of the struggle for the limited finals spot—it’s evident that the different units will push through in wearing their colors and bringing their respective colleges and campuses the glory—with the resumption of the Palaro SSU still to be announced.
