As we remember the 50th Anniversary of the Martial Law Declaration, let us always be reminded by the amount of blood that was shed during the Marcos Regime. Marcos’ dictatorship had a record of 3,257 known extrajudicial killings, 35,000 documented tortures, 77 ‘disappeared’, and 70,000 incarcerations.
The Tradesman stands with the nation in remembering the atrocities brought by his reign, journalists who courageously went after the truth, lives unrightfully tortured and perished, and cries blatantly unheard.
50 years was a long time ago, but the span of time was never enough to compensate for the victims’ grief, loss, and trauma. We may have buried the bodies of those who were killed, but let us not bury the history of truth and violence.
