A bitter end met the Filipino weightlifter, John Febuar Ceniza, as he failed to lift the 125kg weight for the snatch portion of his Olympic weightlifting event at the Paris Olympics.
Ceniza took the stage confidently as he loaded 125kg on the bar for his opening lift, but failed to maintain a good top position which led him to abandon the attempt.
The same thing happened for Ceniza’s second and third attempts to snatch the bar overhead, resulting to his Olympic debut ending in a bitter outcome, tallying a no-lift record.
His personal competition record in the snatch is 131kg, and a personal best of 161kg in the clean and jerk both recorded in 2023.
The opening weight of 125kg must have been an easy weight for Ceniza during training camp, 6 kilograms below his personal best, but the stars were not in his favor during his Olympic debut in Paris.
This can serve as motivation for Ceniza to aim higher for the next Olympics, as even his fellow weightlifter, Hidilyn Diaz, also struggled in her Olympic debut. This is not the end for you John Febuar Ceniza, you made the Philippines proud!
