Samar State University – College of Arts and Sciences gathered third-year students from all programs to attend the 10th Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony on June 29, 2024, at the SSU Gymnasium.
A total of 218 junior students from CAS were pinned, including 64 students from the Bachelor of Science in Psychology, 23 students from the Bachelor of Science in Statistics, and 131 students from the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
The ceremony kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass presided by Rev. Father Jude Austero, an alumnus of SSU, followed by a processional march of students in every program and academic officials, and finally, the Pinning and Candle Lighting proper.
“The 10th Pinning Ceremony is a very impactful and significant event for the College of Arts and Sciences and we are so happy to see you all with your corporate attire,” College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Florabelle B. Patosa said in her opening remarks.
Meanwhile, Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, University President, delivered an inspirational message emphasizing excellence.
“My dear CAS third-year Psychology, Statistics, Information System, and Information Technology students, keep the fire burning in your hearts. Always chase all that wisdom, always thrive for quality and excellence in all your undertakings and in all your dealings, hindi pwedeng basta na okay na, hindi yun excellent,” he said.
Afterwards, Dr. Mae Cañal, Program Chair of BS Psychology, Ms. Emma Tenedero, Program Chair of BS Statistics, and Mr. Erickson Niego, Program Co-Chair of BS Information Technology presented the candidates for On-the-Job Training (OJT).
This was followed by the acceptance of the proclamation as Student Internship Program Director Dr. Gil Amoyan acknowledged “all the rights, privileges, and obligations as prescribed in the respective curriculum and existing policies and guidelines of the University and the Commission on Higher Education.”
Finally, the Candle Lighting was led by the Program Chair of Statistics, Ms. Emma Q. Tenedero, assisted by the Faculty of Bachelor of Science in Statistics. Subsequently, Louise Samantha R. Pacaway, BS Psychology Student, and Mareadine Igdalino, BS Statistics Student, spearheaded their batch in reciting the OJT pledge and prayer, respectively.
“As you embark on this next chapter of your life in the University, carry with you the lessons you have learned in the past three years, the importance of integrity, the value of collaboration, the power perseverance. My dear students, continue to uphold the core values of SSU,” Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Felisa E. Gomba said in her closing remarks.
