To promote research outputs from both undergraduate and graduate students, Samar State University (SSU) Main Campus conducted its annual Research and Development (R&D) Contest and Exhibit, which concluded on its second day, June 14, with the awarding of certificates at the SSU Research and Innovation Center.
This year’s research congress successfully catered to a total of 42 competing works in both the soft and hard sciences, as well as other fields, for the R&D competition. 19 submissions came from graduate students, while 10 and 13 came from undergraduate strands 1 and 2, respectively.
From the pool of theses presented, one paper from each undergraduate strand and two from the graduate level received the best paper award. The awardees are as follows:

- Paper Title: “Inhibitory Effect of Purslane plant (Portulaca oleracea) Crude Extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria”
- Researchers: Rio C. Cecogo, Diosa Mae O. Dongon, and Mark Lester J. Radomes (BSEd Science)
- Strand 2:
- Paper Title: “Through the Lens of a Child: A Narrative Inquiry into Poverty using Photovoice”
- Researchers: Kyla Mae P. Bacunawa, Meriam Joy D. Caber, Rejhel Anne G. Memoracion, Albert L. Pantaleon, and Janice M. Pecayo (BS Psychology)
- Strand 1:
- Graduate
- Masters Degree:
- Paper Title: “Ecopedagogy in Social Science Teaching”
- Researcher: Glory Grace G. Floretes
- Doctoral Degree:
- Paper Title: “Fiscal Management Model for School Heads in Samar Division”
- Researcher: Ma. Carol C. Fabrao
- Masters Degree:
Meanwhile, Vice President for Research and Extension Services, Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, delivered the closing remarks, thanking and congratulating both participants and organizers, officially closing FILIPINNOVATE 2024: SSU Student Research and Development Congress.
