A total eclipse of the heart…
On this day of April, a total solar eclipse will grace our evening skies.
A solar eclipse is when the Moon moves in front of the Sun and blocks out the Sun’s image for those on Earth. When the Moon’s visual diameter is greater than the Sun’s, a total solar eclipse takes place, covering all direct sunlight and converting the day into night.
As one of the most anticipated celestial events of the year, it is quite exciting to witness how the moon will cover the sun and turn the day into darkness.
However, Astronomer Nico Mendoza of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), confirmed that it would be nighttime in the Philippines by the time the phenomenon takes place so we wouldn’t get to see Bakunawa swallowing the sun up.
Even though we would not actually be able to see this phenomenon happening before our very eyes, we shouldn’t let this bummer erase our celestial curiosity since the next Total Solar Eclipse will be on April 2042! (We just have to be alive by then…)
