University Student Council of Samar State University held its second year of Resilient Leadership Training and Team Building for student leaders from different accredited organizations within campus, collaborating with Catbalogan Population and Youth Development Office (CPYDO) and Catbalogan City Supreme Student Council Federation (CCSSCF) on March 21-23, 2024 at the SSU Convention Center.
The speakers featured in the highlighted talks were the following: CPYDO staff Jovic B. Rapanan, FPOP Community Development Worker Mark Bons Fernandez, former USC President and currently Associate Secretary Christine O. Calley, former USC Vice President, now treasurer Jason Dela Peña, Catbalogan City Mayor’s Executive Assistant Aura Anne Rose Tan, and Paul Adonis Santos of Catbalogan City Youth for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CYDRRM).
They tackled informative leadership training topics including Leadership 101, Effective Communication, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, HIV and AIDS Awareness, Resolution and Minutes of the Meeting, and Basic First Aid Skills.
Meanwhile, competing teams Rigel, Red Horse, Tribu Kawayan, White-T-What, Helios, and One Team, One Goal participated in a range of trust activities, group assessments, getting-to-know-you sessions, selection of team officers, team cheers, team yells, and solidarity dances.
MR. AND MS. RLTB 2024
Representative of One Team, One Goal, Geastalt Nacario, a third-year Psychology student, bagged the title of Ms. RLTB 2024, while Luciano Mate III of Team Rigel, a third-year BSIT student, grabbed the title of Mr. RLTB 2024. Nacario was also announced as Ms. Eloquence, together with Jellan Cabilogan of Team Kawayan, a first-year Nursing student, as Mr. Eloquence.
AWARDING
The team of One Team One Goal accumulated sufficient points to clinch first place in the overall ranking. Team Helios secured the second place, followed by Team Rigel, while Team White-T-What ranked fourth. Team Tribu Kawayan seized the fifth place, followed by Team Red Horse.
Additionally, Darcy Gabriel Bacaycay was recognized as the Outstanding LGBTQIA+ Participant, Joana Rica Pacleta for the Outstanding Female Participant, and Michael Rediang for the Outstanding Male Participant.
Now aiming to be an annual event, the student council’s Resilient Leadership and Team building is organized to cultivate teamwork, strategic cognition, communication, and adaptability. The first edition of the Resilient Leadership Training traces back to January 9, 16, and 17, 2023 held at the SSU Gymnasium.
