American-based historian and writer, Marie Silva Vallejo, visited Samar State University (SSU) for a book launching of her work entitled “Dauntless,” the first and second Filipino Regiments, at the CAS-AVC earlier this morning, March 22, 2024.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Arts & Cultural Heritage Programs (ACHeP), in partnership with the Social Studies Circle, DYSY 102.9 University Radio, and Philippine Veterans Bank.
Vallejo’s campus visit started with a guesting on DYSY hosted by the head of the university radio, Ma’am Joan Baclay, followed by her lecture and the ceremonial unveiling of her book attended by students, faculty, and guests from the province.
Her book features the role of Samar during the Second World War, as well as the correspondence between Filipino Regiments and the US Army and the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, which arrived on secret submarine missions to the various islands of the country two and a half years before General MacArthur returned on his way to Japan.
