Subsequent to the conclusion of term of Samar State University’s (SSU) first female President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the SSU-Board of Regents announced the appointment of the first female Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Engr. Ma. Lourdes P. Amante as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) President during the flag raising ceremony earlier, March 11, 2024.
In his introductory message, Arthur M. Poblete, SSU-BOR Secretary, revealed that on their 85th Board Meeting, appointment for Engr. Amante’s stewardship of the university during its transition period was unanimously approved.
“When you lead, you also serve, and when you lead and serve we must also manage effectively with a heart, with balance, and with open mindedness, I did accept the designation as Officer-In-Charge of our beloved Samar State University with open arms,”
said OIC Amante in her first speech as the temporary university chief administrator.
Furthermore, in front of the SSU faculty and students, she asked their cooperation in managing the university, “While waiting for the next university President to assume office after the scheduled election, I humbly ask a favor from you all to help me lead and manage our university smoothly because I really cannot do it alone.”
Officer-In-Charge President Amante, one of the first certified female Civil Engineers in the region, is also currently sitting as a member of the SSU-BOR as the President of the SSU Alumni Federation and is the former Dean of the College of Engineering and Student Development and Related Services.
Meanwhile, OIC Amante’s tenure will continue to last until the SSU-BOR has duly elected and qualified the next university president, with the public forum for the candidates for the said vacancy to occur this Friday, March 15.
