Gong Xi Fa Cai! 🐉🏮
We are one with the entire Filipino-Chinese community in celebrating Chinese New Year!
Also known as the Spring Festival, this fifteen-day festivity commences on February 10th, New Year’s Eve, and concludes on February 24th with a captivating lantern display. The Spring Festival originated in the Shang Dynasty in the 14th century B.C. and was first observed during the dominion of Emperor Wu of Han in 140–87 B.C., holding cultural significance. According to ancient Chinese stories, a mythical creature, Nian, would emerge on the new year’s eve to instill fear in people and livestock. Hence, the celebration is marked by vibrant red colors, fireworks, and beaming lanterns to ward off Nian.
In addition to these traditions, Chinese mythology features twelve zodiac signs associated with animals and elements. This year, being linked with the Wood Dragon, symbolizes strength, wisdom, and good fortune. And as we embrace both the opportunities and challenges of the coming year, may it be a meaningful Year of the Dragon for us all!
