Dear pole-mate,
Just like the basic law of magnetism, unlike poles attract while like poles repel. This principle is in no way applicable in any romantic context because we are not magnets anyway or, perhaps, it is.
I like to relive the moments the first time our paths crossed. It was magical—akin to the romantic scenarios we often read in books or watch in movies. An ultimate cliché slow-motion effect. I never believed it actually happens in real-life until it happened to me. It felt foreign—something I had never felt before.
Seeing you laughing while walking down from the annex was all it took for me to think of investing my college fund on you, which, of course, I never did. The vividness of that moment still lingers insanely because it has been six years already. But I remember you too damn clear—just like an undisturbed water in the lake. Your scintillating eyes were like sharp arrows buried deep in the core of my memory. It was probably the romantic shenanigan that Cupid played on me to get shot through the heart. Except that it was only me he shot in the heart.
We have spoken sporadically since then. Oftentimes, I get a feverish rise of emotion whenever you try to reach out—which mostly are months away in between before we hear words from each other again. I always tell you the books that I read in hopes you read them too. But in reality, those were my attempts to bridge our cleaved interests. Just so we could have something to talk about; that you, for once, would tell me your favorite characters.
Six years have passed yet you are still the character that plays a romantic role in my lucid dreams on repeat. All because it is the only way I have control on what happens to us. Those dreams are close to reality because us is an impossibility. A dream that is far out of my reach.
So, perhaps, the principle of magnetism is true. We are individuals of the same poles and that we are always destined to repel relative to the laws of God and the laws of science.
Loving you from light years away,
John Snow
