In the years of Transatlantic Slave Trade, millions of Africans were transported across the Atlantic Ocean as victims of evil and inhumane enslavement. Driven by the racist ideology, men, women, and children were viewed inferior due to the color of their skin. This part of history shows great impact as the notion of racism is still embedded and manifested in certain traditional beliefs and customs up to this day.
With the theme “Fighting slavery’s legacy of racism through transformative education,” we pay honor and tribute to over 13 million Africans whose human rights were violated and lost their lives because of colonial exploitation, forced labor, violence, and oppression.
Through transformative education, let us all unite to teach and learn about slavery to establish a more inclusive society wherein the color of your skin will not be used as a basis for your worth as a human being.
Together, we fight to end injustice and break slavery’s legacy of racism.
