SSU Deer’s Table Tennis representatives exercised control over their opponents as they conquer every foe that steps in their way in the opening day of the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) games earlier this day.
The frenzy started when Jowel Jan Arraz vanquished the Fighting Maroons resulting to a 3-0 victory in the Men’s Singles match.
The destruction of the Maroons remained ongoing after Simon Siachua and Leonard Sultan (Men’s Doubles), Joanna Jireh Lapura (Women’s Singles), and Rose Anne Silagan and Shane Mogote (Women’s Doubles) also swept UPT, ensuring the perfect record for the Ping Pong team during the morning period of the said event.
As the afternoon period started, the fever also prevailed after John Raymond Verzosa subdued Leyte Normal University with a clean sweep and took the second W of the day for the Men’s Singles category.
On the other hand, Lapura notched her second victory after she performed another sweep against Biliran Province State University, booking herself a ticket to the quarterfinals.
“Nabuhat ko adto na akon game yana nga day is tungod ginhimo ko la an amon usual training didto ha amon, tapos conditioning gihap ngan an bulig gihap han amon coach, an pagset niya han amon mind,” Lapura stated after cementing her 2-0 standing.
The day ended with a nail-biting exchange of strike as Rose Anne Silagan and Shane Mogote managed to outduel Biliran Province State University in a split 3-2 win. Thus, completing the perfect standing for the SSU Pongers.
“Nakakaoverwhelm la kay kumbaga an amon proper training nagawas namon ha play, and then, an akon liwat teammates may ada coordination, cooperation nga tanan hira nahimo nira an ira best bisan sugad hini ka-critical kay magkusog an kalaban so we gave our best para ha Samar State University,” Verzosa underscored.
