Brimming the atmosphere with melodies, entrants from ten State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) all over Eastern Visayas rivalled for various musical competitions as Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) 8 Regional Culture and the Arts Festival continues at Visayas State University (VSU) Convention Center this morning, October 19.
Music category includes pop solo (OPM), vocal solo (Kundiman), vocal duet, instrumental solo, live band competition, and chorale contest. Contingents for the live band and chorale singing competitions are scheduled to perform later this afternoon in the same venue.
Meanwhile, Samar State University (SSU) reps belted out their talents: Shirly May Brillantes sang Ngayon at Kailanman by Basil Valdez for pop solo; Hazel Adeline Marasigan, accompanied on the piano by SSU Music instructor Bliss Gara, performed Nasaan Ka Irog by Nicanor Abelardo for vocal solo (Kundiman); Mark Llantos and Aira Arsolon sang a duet with Wish by Jason Everly and Donna Cruz; and Nathaniel Paul Langbayan played Tuwing Umuulan, composed by Ryan Caybyab, on the piano for the instrumental solo.
These contestants, along with other contenders, strived to secure their spots in the National PASUC Culture and the Arts Festival slated for next year in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
