Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being
Around 90% of adolescent girls and young women do not use the internet in low-income countries, while their male peers are twice as likely to be online. – United Nations (UN)
This International Day of the Girl (IDG) join us as we promote girls’ empowerment and highlight the challenges girls face worldwide. The IDG focuses attention on the need to address the obstacles girls face and the fulfillment of their human rights.
In line with this year’s celebration, under the theme “Digital generation. Our generation,” UN puts emphasis on calling for equal access to the internet and digital devices for girls and targeted investments to facilitate opportunities for girls to safely and meaningfully access, use, lead, and design technology.
Digital literacy opens new opportunities for learning, and leading for girls, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the pandemic has also deepened the gender divide around connectivity and online safety, with girls facing economic and social barriers to internet and device access.
On this International Day of the Girl, let us work together to ensure that girls are connected, supported, and empowered so that we are co-leading the journey of digital transformation. – UN Women
IDG is a reminder that girls are leaders, change-makers, and girls are driving good growth around the world.
Happy International Day of the Girl Child!
