Samar State University (SSU) clinched another resounding victory at the Alfredo M. Yao Intellectual Property (AMY-IP) Awards, presented by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry on October 2 in Taguig City, Manila, as their team competed and excelled with pioneering projects.
Since 2016, SSU entries have consistently been selected as finalists and have notched the grand prize three times, in 2016, 2019, and 2021.
This year’s top honor of Collegiate Champion was bagged by the team behind “MASAG” (Mud Crab Attracting System with Application of Generated Frequency), team composed by Marquis Marj Salazar, Seth Paul Babayson, Mark Cris, Engr. Walvies Mc Alcos, Engr. Nikko Ardel Floretes, Engr. Adrian Gadin, Engr. Francis Jerric Candido, and Engr. Richard Fabriag. Their inventive project demonstrated a significant advancement in aquaculture technology.
Following closely as the 1st Runner-Up was the team presenting “Fish Pond Water Quality Monitoring with Alarm System,” led by Seth Paul Babayson, Mark Cris, Leander Fajardo, Harvey Tan, Mark Lester Gacuma, and Engr. Nikko Ardel Floretes. Their innovation in monitoring and ensuring water quality in fish ponds showcased their commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices.
Faculty-coaches, with a special mention of Engr. Floretes and colleagues, were given recognition for their invaluable guidance and mentorship pivotal in shaping the aforementioned projects for AMY-IP Award.
AMY-IP Awards aim ‘to recognize inventors, entrepreneurs, and students who contribute to the development of innovative and new creative products and services that make doing business productive and economical’.
