Awit ng kabataan? Kamalayan sa Kalikasan at sa Bayan!
12th day of August is celebrated as International Youth Day with the aim to draw worldwide focus towards various issues surrounding the youths of our world.
This year’s International Day of the Youth themed “Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World” seeks to promote a successful transition towards a greener world and it will depend on the development of green skills in the population, especially the youth, in-line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Green skills are “knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society” (Department of Economic and Social Affairs, DESA, UN).
While green skills are relevant for people of all ages, they have heightened importance for younger people, who can contribute to the green transition for a longer period of time.
The rise and development of each county starts with the smallest unit, particularly the young. A lot of contribution is made by young people towards community development, in protection of environment and volunteering on various social projects. We need to honor the qualities of youth and the potential that they hold towards development of a nation and the world as a whole.
The first International Youth Day was observed on 12 August, 2000 after its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1999.
Happy International Youth Day! Pagpupugay sa mga pag-asa ng bayan!
