World Population Day, observed annually on the 11th of July, draws attention to global population growth and its various surrounding issues. Tracing back to 1987, when the global population reached five billion, the United Nations Development Programme marked the day as World Population Day.
This year’s theme, “Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality: Lifting the Voices of Women and Girls to Unlock Our World’s Infinite Possibilities,” not only bears on leaders but also recognizes every individual, and further highlighting women and their potential in making a difference in addressing these issues, thus altogether creating a sustainable future for all.
Together, eight billion lives, eight billion possibilities.
