University Student Council executive officers, accredited and reaccredited organizations of Samar State University for the Academic Year 2022-2023, took oath during the 2023 Panunumpa sa Katungkulan at the SSU Convention Center on January 17.
The oath taking ceremony was pursued by the USC and was led by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, Engr. Ma. Lourdes Amante. 58 student organizations represented by their presidents and vice presidents attended the said event.
In her opening remarks, Engr. Amante congratulated and reminded the student leaders of how big and important their leadership is.
“Leadership, Excellence, Discipline, and Service are expected in every student of SSU, especially from you, student leaders. Being elected carries a high responsibility that [you] should perform and carry out. Lead by example and inspire others,” Engr. Amante stated.
“Take it as a chance to prove to your fellow students, that you are deserving to be where you are in your respective organizations and the trust they gave you [was] worth it,” she added.
Meanwhile, University President Dr. Marilyn Cardoso also gave a congratulatory and inspiring message to the student leaders.
“There are five Cs of a good and excellent leader— credibility, being a good communicator, having an unfaded commitment, being confident, and finally, creativity. We want you our students, that when you are going to walk out of the four walls of your classrooms, when you graduate from Samar State University, you will be trained to dream big for you, for your family, for your community, and your country,” she uttered.
Student Welfare and Development Services Director Dr. Mae Cañal, Student Organization Coordinator Mr. Melboy Merciales, and University Student Council Adviser Engr. Noel Palomas also made an appearance at the event.
The night concluded with a message from USC Adviser Engr. Palomas, who reminded students of what leadership is and how to be an effective leader.
“There are three keys to effective leadership— being true to yourself, true to your work, true to the people you lead,” he said.
“Leadership is no easy game, but for those who are given the chance to lead like you, our newly elected officers, do it with a sense of purpose and dignity. The school may be a greater place then, because of the light who are able to shine,” Engr. Palomas emphasized.
