In a round-robin chess tournament, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Engineering (CoEng’g) dueled with their sights set squarely with one another as both teams were determined to outsmart the other in a chessboard clash, held on Monday, October 28.
In the men’s division, CoEng’g proved that they are always a knight’s move away from victory as their calculated plays and strategic maneuvers left the opponents in the dust, racking up an impressive 23.5 points. CAS fought valiantly as they showcased the same wits with a 20-point finish.
Paranas Campus was hot on their heels, finishing only 3 points behind CAS with 17 points. Following closely were the College of Education (CoEd) and the College of Industrial Technology (CIT), earning 16.5 and 13.5 points, respectively. Rounding out the standings were the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CoNHS) and Mercedes Campus, with 8 and 6 points, respectively.
Equally-fierce competition was demonstrated by the women’s division as the CAS checkmated their rivals, proving that they are the queens of the board, securing 20.5 points. CoEng’g was not far behind, finishing strong with 18 points, demonstrating that they are a force to be reckoned with.
The CoEd also made their mark, putting up a valiant fight and concluding with 16 points. Meanwhile, CoNHS displayed resilience, accumulating 14.5 points and showing that they, too, could play a pivotal role in this royal rumble.
Paranas Campus claimed 11 points, while the CIT and Mercedes Campus wrapped up the standings with 7 points and 3 points, respectively.
Due to Tropical Storm Kristine, the tournament featured a total of 8 rounds, with 3 rounds played last Monday afternoon, October 21, and the remaining 5 rounds were continued yesterday, October 28.
