Nesthy Petecio secured another bronze medal for the Philippines after Polish boxer Julia Szeremeta ended their boxing bout in the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s boxing 57kg semifinals.
Petecio failed to advance to the Olympic finals, finishing with a 4-1 split decision. The scores were 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29, in favor of Szeremeta.
With this loss, Petecio was unable to return to the Olympic finals to defend her silver medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Nesthy Petecio now joins Carlos Yulo and her fellow boxer, Aira Villegas, as podium finishers for the Philippines, delivering the fourth medal for our country.
As Petecio records this historic feat, the Philippines now sits in the 24th place in the Summer Olympics medal tally.
