As we commemorate Anti-Graft Month, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a nation built on honesty, integrity, transparency, and accountability. A nation that triumphs over corruption, and where every voice matters.
On March 29, 2004, the former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo proclaimed May of each year as the Anti-Graft and Corruption Awareness Month. This declaration mandates all government entities, including government-owned and controlled corporations, to collectively observe this month through the organization of pertinent activities under the guidance of the Office of the Ombudsman.
Anti-Graft Month exists as an opportunity to enhance public consciousness regarding the extensive effects of corruption and the key responsibility of society in preventing it. Anti-corruption initiatives fundamentally seek to establish and maintain ethical standards in public service and governance, reiterating the significance of integrity, honesty, transparency, and accountability for every public employee.
More than just another day of observance, this month inspires civic engagement and action. It empowers individuals in becoming catalysts of change and play their role in fighting against corruption. Through participation in anti-corruption initiatives, collective action is mobilized and the voices of ordinary citizens are amplified further instilling a sense of ownership and empowerment among Filipinos.
