“…Disperse them without shooting,” former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. said, as quoted in a podcast Iba’t ibang EDSA: A PODKAS special episode last year, to command his air force troops in dealing with the million crowd marching the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue in 1986.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. removing the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary from our country’s special non-working holidays sounds just like that — only now we are being dispeled by truth which once set our country free from autocracy which then grappled absolute power that lasted for 20 years.
This year’s ought to be 38th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution, may not be recognized by the law, urges us to keep our eyes and ears vigilant from distortion attempts at revising one of the commemorative symbol of our democracy as Filipinos.
Let’s all collectively stand, as enduring as the barricades before, in using spaces and platforms that would strengthen not the just memory and spaces which once held these historical events, but also educate ourselves in the significance of such armless revolution to further rekindle our love for our nation. May this love testify our efforts in helping our country towards progress instead of starting another beginning of our end.
