A mountain is not just a tower of resources; it’s the home of so many people, animals, and plants.
In the year 2003, the first year of celebrating International Mountain Day, people thought that it was about the celebration of majestic mountains and a tower of beauty, but it was about raising awareness about protecting and saving mountains as the home of different species and a protective shield for the community against disasters.
And now, it is exactly 20 years ago that the United Nations implemented this celebration. 20 years of protection, 20 years of war against human interest, and 20 years of raising awareness.
Do you think there has been a big change in the past 20 years?
Well, in those 20 years, there has been a change: the change of mountains into a mining field, the change of mountains into a big city, and also the change of mountains into a road that ruins its beauty.
There is life beneath the mountains, where indigenous people live, where birds are nested, and where important trees are planted. We should bring positive change to mountain people and the environment that they live in.
These mountains will always be a tower of beauty, life, and safety. We have to stop our personal interests and selfish agendas just to be rich. We have to make an impact on the environment and the whole of humanity.
Mountains are fountains; they shower life and flow beauty.
