Tacloban City, Leyte — After operating from both ends of the court, SSU Deer barraged SLSU Kingfishers to end the series with a sweep, 89-71, enabling them to anchor the championship trophy of the Eastern Visayas Collegiate Athletic Association Season 2, held at Tacloban Astrodome, November 12, 2023.
Rogelio “Tuks” Tolipas Jr. was hailed as the player of the game after he listed 22 points, 8 boards, and 7 dimes, which also acted as an avenue for Tuks to claim the Finals MVP in the second season of EVCAA.
Locked Fortifications
Dixter Basilan and Rogelio Tolipas Jr. took the authority on the clamping end of the Deer as they orchestrated defensive stops of SSU, forcing the Kingfishers to commit turnovers, converting these errors to baskets for the Dexterous Deer.
On-Court Comrades
As the first quarter started, the Tolipas duo startled SLSU with fast-paced attacks showcasing their brotherly chemistry to open the period with a 7-2 run.
AJ Tolipas arranged the offensive end of this duel as he conducted the ball movement of SSU Deer securing the six point lead as the quarter ended, 23-17.
Keeping up with the Tempo
After gaining the tempo, SSU Deer caught the rhythm and proceeded to vanquish the Kingfishers as they executed fastbreaks and offensive rebounds, swamping the SLSU during the second quarter of the game, 49-37.
Despite the lead being cut down to a single digit on the opening of the third period, SSU Deer continued to assert dominance as they relentlessly blasted SLSU with mid-range and under the basket attacks, ending the quarter with a 15-point advantage, 72-57.
Securing the Title
The supremacy of the Deer prevailed to the fourth quarter as they listed and bombarded the Kingfishers with a 21-point lead with 7:32 minutes left on the clock, 80-59.
Using their quickness and speed advantage against their foes, SSU Deer managed to keep the momentum on their side and did not allow the Kingfishers to push the series to the do-or-die match, guaranteeing the gold medal for the Deer, 89-71.
