Section 5 of Republic Act No. 9512, also known as the “National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008,” declared the month of November as National Environmental Awareness Month to promote awareness, especially among the youth, on the importance of protecting the environment and natural resources and the sustainable growth and development of our country.
The Philippines is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, with a wide range of ecosystems, including forests, mountains, coral reefs, and mangrove swamps. However, the country’s environment is under threat from a number of factors, including deforestation, pollution, and climate change.
National Environmental Awareness Month is a call to action, an invitation to engage in constructive dialogue, and an opportunity to educate ourselves and those around us. Together, we can drive positive change, striving for cleaner, greener, and safer communities, while committing to be responsible stewards of the environment and fostering a deeper understanding of the delicate balance between nature and human actions.
As we embark on this month-long journey of heightened environmental consciousness, let it be a turning point in our commitment to protect our planet and alleviate the devastation of natural disasters.
Always remember, awareness is the first step, action is next.
