SAMAR STATE UNIVERSITY — After being officially elected on Thursday, October 12, Samar State University Student Council poll winners took a pledge as the officers of the council for Academic Year 2023-2024 on Friday, October 13, at the Convention Center.
With University President Dr. Marilyn Cardoso as the inducting officer of this year’s Panunumpa sa Katungkulan, the president, vice president, and 19 out of 21 representatives showed up and swore in office at the said event.
Pres. Cardoso gave advice to the officers to be the best version of themselves as they are given responsibility as USC officers, “Be the best version of yourselves because you are now leaders— attention is now focused on you. Always ensure that you are a reflection of what we mean by excellence in Samar State University … which means doing the right things rightly for the right reasons.”
“And once you have the heart for service, you are going to reinvent yourselves. Turn yourselves into gold, turn your organization into gold— that means you will really be soaring high and you are always going to help everybody [also turn] themselves into gold because you are the leaders of Samar State University,” said Pres. Cardoso as she emphasized what it means to be the alchemist type of leader.
Meanwhile, in his first message as the newly elected USC President, Joshua Ibajo expressed his goal to ensure effective service and establish effective projects, activities, and plans for the student body.
He also posed a challenge to his co-officers, “Para han newly elected officers, challenge ini ha aton nga mas labawan or tapatan naton an mga nahimo han ‘dan una nga administration.”
Also present in the oath taking ceremony were Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Engr. Ma. Lourdes Amante, Student Welfare and Development Services Director Dr. Mae Cañal, Student Organization Coordinator Melboy Merciales, and SSU Commission on Elections Chairperson Janina Marian Quebec.
