Suicide is also the fourth leading cause of death among 15-19-year-olds, World Health Organization says.
Suicide is a tremendous public health problem with a great extent of social, emotional, and economic consequences. It is hardly believed that there are currently more than 700,000 suicides per year nationwide, and we know that each case of suicide significantly affects the lives of many more people.
Every September 10th of the year, countries around the world commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day to reminisce about the lives of those who lost due to suicide, and to promote awareness to people that suicide can be prevented.
On a proclamation on World Suicide Prevention Day, 2021: To showcase the advocacy of the United States to decrease the number of suicide, they joined the World Health Organization, and the International Association for Suicide Prevention by “creating hope through action.” They are also committing to connect with those who are having difficult times to encourage communities, organizations, and governments to act as one to avert suicide.
To be a contributing agent in diminishing incidents of suicide, we must take action to save the precious lives of people who are in extreme sadness and serious pain, and fighting silent battles in an isolated setting.
We must be able to spread awareness about such topics, become sensitive whenever we would like to talk about it with someone else, and most importantly, know that there is always hope when we help.
