In a life full of adversities, humanity is what we need.
World Humanitarian Day is a global celebration observed every year on August 19th. This observance was founded by the United Nations (UN) in 2009 to honor the Humanitarian leader Sergio Vleira de Mello and 21 others that were killed when the UN Headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq was bombed. This is to remember those who put their lives at risk trying to help people in war-stricken and disease-ridden areas.
The theme for World Humanitarian Day 2023 is The Human Race with the slogan, it takes a village. This is to show our commitment to deliver for the communities we serve, no matter who, no matter where and #NoMatterWhat.
Humanitarians work around the clock to make our world a better place. “We need to create a world that is equitable, that is stable and a world where we bear in mind the needs of others, and not only what we need immediately. We are all in the same boat.” – Kofi Annan
Humanitarians have no other purpose than to save and protect lives. This is a difficult yet dangerous work but, we must show the importance and positive impact of humanitarian work and recognizing the value of human life #NoMatterWhoWeAre and #NoMatterWhatWeAre is the true humanitarianism.
