Today, we acknowledge the significance of the campus press, particularly in these times of widespread misinformation and disinformation.
On August 28, 2019, former President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11440 into law, designating July 25 of each year as the National Campus Press Freedom Day.
This law recognizes the campus press as part of the media and is an important institution in promoting and protecting the freedom of the press and freedom of expression. With this recognition, The Tradesman, the official student publication of Samar State University – Main Campus, stands united with campus presses across the Philippines in championing campus press freedom.
Here’s to upholding the pursuit of truth, delivering unbiased narratives, and serving as a dependable news outlet not solely for the student community but also for the nation.
The press is free, and it shall always be.
