Loud. Vibrant. Lively.
With the onset of midterms upon Samar State University, this is how the Psych Fun Day of the Psychology students went on October 17, Monday, held at SSU Maceda Gymnasium in extension to this year’s week-long World Mental Health Week celebration.
To highlight camaraderie, build a sense of belongingness, showcase their talents, and welcome the freshmen students of the said program, hands-on and fun-filled activities were facilitated by the Psychology Society Officers headed by the organization president Jevah Mae Piamonte.
The whole day get-together event was full of thrill and excitement as the students from every year level took part in different initiated activities such as: batch chant, talent show, Psychology Fact or Bluff, Family Feud, and Laro ng Lahi.
Also, present in the event were the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Faculty and Student Welfare and Development Services (SWDS) Staff namely: Mary Jane Cinco, the Psychology Society Adviser, Andrea Del Rosario, Junia Pagliawan, Angelyn Machate, Hyannia Deanelle Comilan, Geolly Maglines, and Glenn Donadillo.
CAS Dean, Dr. Florabelle Patosa expressed her amazement and congratulations to the people behind the successful event as she pointed out how burnout the students are due to midterm examinations, yet they were still able to push through “very actively” in having the activity.
Meanwhile, it was a “dream come true” for Piamonte as organizing a meaningful event like this has always been a part of her vision as a mental health advocate. To see the happy and enjoying faces of the students for her was not just a satisfaction, but also was worth every hard work they have rendered.
According to her, now is the time to make our mental health a priority because “through sports activities, through physical activities, there’s mental health development.”
Psychology Society Adviser Mary Jane Cinco wrapped up the event reminding everyone to focus on their mental health saying, “let’s make our mental health a top priority… know when to rest, know when to fight.”
After the fun games, Hannalene Marasigan, a Psychology Society Officer once again set the gym on fire as she enlivened the crowd with a Zumba dance.
With the cooperation of the students, officers, faculty, and staff, the first-ever Psych Fun Day was a success and may now become an annual event.
