“Together we will rise above the Challenges”
SSU holds F2F General Orientation for A.Y. 2022-2023
After two years of virtual ones, Samar State University finally conducted face-to-face General Orientation themed “Together we will rise above challenges,” on Monday, September 26, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at SSU Maceda Gymnasium.
Present in the event were over 800 attendees, composed of freshmen, transferees, continuing students, University President, Vice Presidents, deans, associate deans, officials, support staff, and faculty.
The whole-day orientation served as the venue for the Student Welfare and Development Services (SWDS) together with the University President, respective Vice Presidents and Board of Directors to give the students the necessary information about the university, its key officials and its offered services.
“May I sincerely inform you all, my dear students, that the entire SSU community is here to support, sustain, and encourage you to study hard in your journey in your college degree. We are so happy to serve you all,” said Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, Vice President of the Academic Affairs, as she officially welcomed the students with her opening message.
University President, Dr. Marilyn Cardoso, highlighted SSU’s remarkable achievements and awards in her inspirational message and encouraged the students to be proud of their own university. Dr. Cardoso also emphasized the importance of determination in achieving success, especially among college students.
“…we expect you [students] to really have the competence and the strong will to learn. If you are not willing to learn no one can help you but if you are determined to learn, no one can stop you. We expect our students here in Samar State University to be determined, to be able to learn because you should contribute to the development of your community, of the region, and the entire country,” Dr. Cardoso said.
The event was organized by the office of the SWDS Information and Orientation Services, under the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (OVPSAS), headed by Ms. Karizza Rochelle Servado.
SWDS also broadcasted a live video of the whole event, streamed by continuing students, freshmen, and transferees from remote places at that time.
