There is no such thing as too much of nature is harmful to humans, but too much of human activity and exploitation, actually aggravates the condition of the environment, the global climate, and nature in general. We have been carelessly exploiting our resources and investing on non-ecofriendly remedies to address the growing demands of our world at the expense of the welfare of our only home – the Earth.
After hearing a major report from the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), climate scientists and activists take it to the streets to call on government institutions to also prioritize climate emergency action, as contained in the report, there is a dire warning that our time to act is swiftly running out.
Following the arrest of NASA scientist Peter Kalmus along with other climate scientists and climate activists, The Tradesman vehemently condemns the act and join the call for a faster, stronger climate action from world governments and an end to the burning of fossil fuels. Likewise, we urge the Philippine government to heed the calls of scientists, experts, and activists to create legislations that will advance and also prioritize climate action in the country.
This is no longer the time to be environment and climate advocates, but become climate activists, as there is a dire warning that our time to act is swiftly running out, we need to intensify our efforts to call out large corporations that continuously utilize non-renewable sources of energy such as fossil fuels and coals and urge them to shift to a clean alternative source.
As timely as the upcoming 2022 Philippine National Elections, we call on the students of Samar State University and the Filipinos in general, to vote intelligently by choosing our next leaders who will also prioritize climate action and treat climate emergency the same way they put importance and their attention to the various social and economic problems that our country is facing.
Our time to act is already infinitesimal, the future of this planet, the next generation, and our children rests in our hands. May we always continue to push for progressive reforms, all for a sustainable, livable planet and pro-active climate action.
